Governor Snyder issues a new Executive Order for the Michigan Statewide Independent Living Council
When President Obama signed the Workforce Innovation and Opportunities Act (WIOA) into law in July 2014 it prompted states to change how their Statewide Independent Living Councils (SILC) were established and structured. On May 26, 2016 Governor Rick Snyder signed an Executive Order to ensure the Michigan SILC was in compliance with WIOA.
Executive Order 2016-11 rescinded the previous Executive Orders 2007-49 and 2012-15. The substantive changes made including updating the charge of the council and the composition of the council to fully compliant with WIOA.

Michigan’s CILs and SILC Submit the 2017-19 State Plan for Independent Living
On June 20th the Michigan Statewide Independent Living Council met to approve the submission of the 2017-2019 State Plan for Independent Living (SPIL). This plan establishes the blueprint for improving independent living in Michigan.
Due to the implementation of the Workforce Innovations and Opportunity Act of 2014 the SPIL signatories included the Center for Independent Living (CIL) Executive Directors. WIOA states that a minimum of 51% of the CIL directors must sign the SPIL. In Michigan, all 14 CIL Directors signed the document for 100% support of this important document.
